Simpson cited for speeding in Bellevue

Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, found out the hard way not to speed through Bellevue.

The 2nd Congressional District representative got a ticket Wednesday morning, Aug. 23, for allegedly driving 64 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone.

Simpson was reportedly en route to a 9 a.m. reception and fund-raiser in Sun Valley when Bellevue Deputy Scott Osterhout saw a speeding car, flipped on his police flashers, pulled the congressman over and issued a citation.

"The congressman was speeding; he got pulled over; he got a ticket; and he'll pay the fine when he gets home," said Simpson spokeswoman Nikki Watts.

Simpson was on a backpacking trip in the White Cloud Mountains over the weekend.

Bellevue Marshall Tim Green said the ticket will cost Simpson $108.

"The officer that actually cited him had never heard of him," Green said. "I guess he doesn't follow politics."
