County leaders appoint 2 to P&Z Commission

JIMA RICE

The Blaine County Board of Commissioners has appointed Jima Rice as a new member of the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission. The appointment is for three years. Dr. Rice, a resident of Hulen Meadows, north of Ketchum, succeeds north county resident Don Nurge on the commission.

"Among other things, the Board of Commissioners looks at a candidate's interest in planning and zoning issues, knowledge of the county, geographical diversity, and a candidate's experience serving on decision-making boards," said Commissioner Sarah Michael, chairwoman of the board. "Jima Rice was a unanimous choice because she clearly met the criteria we consider in making appointments. We look forward to her input."

Rice's particular land-use interests include the cities/county interface and regional planning. A county news release said she is "committed to growth that is environmentally sound and economically viable, and which respects both historical traditions and future population demands. She is skilled at group process and finding common ground."

Rice is a business psychologist. She consults with local for-profit and not-for-profit organizations on management issues, strategic direction, and executive coaching. She has worked with more than 70 organizations in the Wood River Valley, including the Blaine County and Hailey planning and zoning departments."

Experienced Planning and Zoning member Doug Werth was also reappointed to the commission. Werth is a Hailey attorney.

"The board is pleased that Doug Werth is interested in serving another three-year term. Doug has served as Blaine County's prosecuting attorney, has participated in the Blaine County 2025 planning process, and has experience with the county's subdivision ordinances. He brings valuable knowledge and insight to the process," Michael said.
