Join Idaho Rivers United and special guests to celebrate nature's most amazing fish at the seventh annual Sawtooth Salmon Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26 and 27, in downtown Stanley. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, in the Stanley City Park off Highway 21, 60 miles north of Ketchum.
On Saturday evening, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Idaho Rivers United will host the first annual Wild Salmon Feast. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children under 12, with proceeds benefiting the salmon recovery efforts of Idaho Rivers United. Tickets are available at the Idaho Rivers United office in Boise, at the Stanley Chamber of Commerce office, and at Backwoods Mountain Sports in Ketchum.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game education specialists will lead hands-on children's activities, including kids in the creek, and gyotaku, a traditional form of fish printing.
Some of the highlights each year are the traditional dances preformed by members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe. They will perform both days of the festival.
Staff of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area will host an educational salmon tent and lead experiential children's activities.
As well, Idaho Rivers United will lead field trips to the river to show wild salmon spawning in the Salmon River on both Saturday and Sunday.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Ryan Peck, Hatti Moss, Dan Costello and a special performance Saturday night by Desert Cadillac.
The event will feature an art fair with works by local artists and craftspeople. Food and beverages will be available.
All activities other than the salmon feast are free and open to the public.
The Sawtooth Salmon Festival is co-sponsored by Idaho Rivers United, the Stanley Chamber of Commerce, the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe, The River Company, Big Sky Brewing Co. and Albertsons.
