No one knew quite what to expect at the start of the 2006 summer season for the Wood River Dolphins swim team.

Boasting a new coach, Cameron Randolph, but having fewer swimmers than previous years, the team, based at Hailey's Blaine County Aquatic Center, began a two-and-a-half month journey that ended with an exciting and welcome surprise—the league championship trophy.

Swimmers improved each week and showed it during the six-meet competition season that wrapped up with the Sagebrush League championships July 29 at Jackpot, Nev.

The Dolphins clocked numerous personal-best times during the 11-team championship meet. And the Dolphins came out on top, claiming first place in team points.

Randolph said, "I feel like we started this year with some hurdles to overcome, but by the time we got to Jackpot we had improved in our weakest areas enough to pull a victory together. I had a blast and the kids enjoyed the season, too."

Those swimmers placing in the top 10 in overall points in their age groups were:

1—Forrest Davis. 2—Jillian Shay. 3—Sienna Miley, Keegan Whitelaw and Chrystal Tullis.

5—Drew Morse, Isabelle Taylor, Gene Fairbrother and Scott Isaacs. 6—Sara Lichtenberg, Audrey Brassil and Daniel Henry.

7—Callie Weber. 8—Joel Rinckwald. 9—Sarah Verst, Ellie Shay, Natalie Goddard and Matt Lichtenberg. 10—Luma Randolph, Reid Selisch, Rosie Bauer and John Crotty.
