A new, permanent snowmaking system promises a full 2006-2007 ski season on Dollar Mountain, Sun Valley Resort's beginners' ski area.
"You are guaranteed Dollar Mountain is going to be open from top to bottom for the Christmas holiday. We guarantee the quality of the snow to be great," said Jack Sibbach, Sun Valley Co. spokesman.
Sun Valley Co. began installing infrastructure on Dollar Mountain this summer that will provide modern snowmaking capabilities on the mountain for the upcoming ski season. Trenches to accommodate the system have already been dug.
"Even last year with the great snow conditions, we almost had to close the top of Dollar," Sibbach said.
Previously, old-fashioned snowmaking capabilities existed on the bottom portion of the mountain, providing snow for the Quarter and Half sections of Dollar Mountain.
"With Carol's Dollar Mountain Lodge, we have one of the best facilities. You have to have the mountain to go with it," Sibbach said.
The project is part of Sun Valley Co.'s master plan to make numerous improvements on Dollar and Bald mountains over the next 10 years. Other long-term plans for Dollar include new chairlifts and additional snowmaking on adjoining parts of the mountain.
