Soccer tournaments arrive for men, women

Lefty?s, Laurent Perrier teams in action this weekend in Ketchum

Ketchum's annual midsummer men's and women's soccer tournaments will pack Atkinson Park this coming weekend.

The Lefty's Bar & Grill men's soccer team is hosting its 30th annual Ketchum Classic tournament for 12 teams Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12-13.

Lefty's will play its preliminary games at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday on the Ketchum park's upper field. Three other local teams are in the field—a second Lefty's squad, Restos del Mundo and San Lorenzo.

Other men's teams will come from the Utah cities of Logan, Park City and Salt Lake City, plus Jackson Hole (Wyo.), Missoula (Mt.) and Boise. Championship game is Sunday at 3 p.m. on the upper field.

The Boise Blast men's team (12-0 in Ketchum the past three years) is the three-time defending champion of the Ketchum Classic. The Blast beat Jackson Hole 4-1 in last year's final.

Sponsors are Lefty's, KB's and Sun Valley Insurance.

"We are combining our tournament with the men's tournament for the first time ever," said Siobhan Sutton of the Laurent Perrier women's team sponsored by Jim Cimino.

Other women's teams this weekend for the 25th annual women's meet are expected from Park City, Boise and Jackson Hole. Laurent Perrier is the defending champion, having beaten Boise Zif 5-4 in a sudden death overtime shootout in the 2005 title contest.
