A jury trial has been rescheduled for Robert Joe Harrison Jr., a former airport security guard accused of kidnapping a 10-year-old Ketchum boy in April.
Originally set to begin Tuesday, July 25, the trial has been reset for Sept. 20. The trial, expected to last three days, will be heard in Blaine County 5th District Court by Judge Robert Elgee.
According to court records, the trial was rescheduled because of a delay in receiving forensic evidence.
A Blaine County grand jury charged Harrison with second-degree kidnapping, an offense punishable in Idaho by up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Harrison is accused of enticing a Hemingway Elementary School student into his vehicle on April 10 and initially refusing to let the boy leave. According to Ketchum police, the boy was released later that day unharmed. Harrison was arrested on April 11.
He was held in the Blaine County Jail on $500,000 bond until June 5, when his attorney, Kevin Cassidy of the Roark Law Firm in Hailey, successfully argued before Elgee that the bond was excessive since no other charges had been filed against Harrison. Elgee reduced bond to $20,000, and Harrison posted bail later that day and was released.
Under conditions of his release, Harrison was required to leave Idaho and return to Walla Walla, Wash., where he lived before moving to the Wood River Valley last year.
Harrison worked as a security officer for the federal Transportation Security Administration at Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey. He was suspended without pay following his arrest.
