School board appoints leaders

The Blaine County School District board voted Tuesday, July 11, to maintain status quo. The board unanimously agreed to re-elect Alex Sundali and Kim Nilsen as chair and vice-chair of the district's governing body.

The decision came minutes after trustees Sundali, Nilsen and Mari Beth Matthews took their oaths of office to serve additional terms. The annual trustee elections for the board were not held this year, as the three board members ran unopposed. Instead, as provided by Idaho Code, the district signed a Certificate of Election in May, naming Sundali and Nilsen to serve three-year terms and Matthews to a one-year term.

Entering her second term, Sundali was elected to the board in 2003 and first elected chairwoman in 2005. She represents Zone 4, the district in the northern half of Blaine County.

Nilsen, a general contractor who lives in Hailey, represents Zone 2, the district in southern Hailey. He was initially elected vice-chair in 2005.

Matthews represents the general zone on the northern side of Hailey and a portion of Blaine County. She was appointed in September 2005 to fill a vacancy left when Kathy Pruett resigned.

The board also voted to appoint Mike Chatterton as school district treasurer, Cathy Zaccardi as clerk of the board, Rand Peebles as school district attorney, and Blake Walsh as local education agency representative.
