Celebrities and ordinary duffers will converge on Elkhorn Golf Course Sunday and Monday, Aug. 6-7, for this year's YMCA Celebrity Classic, an event that in the past has drawn notables such as Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks.
Even non-duffers are welcome as well, as event festivities will include an elegant dinner, an auction and celebrity entertainment on the grounds of the Trail Creek Cabin in Sun Valley.
Proceeds from the event help support the Wood River Community YMCA, which is currently being constructed in Ketchum at the corner of Warm Springs and Saddle roads. The 84,000-square-foot facility will house a swimming pool, ice rink, fitness center, climbing wall and gymnasium.
The Celebrity Classic will feature foursomes accompanied by a celebrity.
In addition to actors Eastwood and Hanks, past celebrity participants have included actor Jamie Lee Curtis, actor-turned-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, ski racer Picabo Street, hockey star Jeremy Roenick, actor-author Mariel Hemingway, actor Tom Poston, actor-comedian Kevin Nealon, and musician Peter Cetera.
For more information, or to register, call 727-9622, or go online to www.WoodRiverYMCA.org.
According to the YMCA web site, the event attracts about 400 people each year. "The auction is particularly popular, featuring memorabilia, gifts, trips and other merchandise donated by individuals and businesses from the region and nationwide."
