An exciting summer season for the Blaine County Recreation District's Wood River Little League baseball and softball leagues wrapped with tournament week June 26-29.
The Muckdogs pulled off the biggest upset in the 9-10 tournament. Having gone without a win during the regular season, the #7-seeded Batavia Muckdogs sponsored by the Idaho Mountain Express won all three of their tournament games and won the championship over the #3-seeded Lake Elsinore Storm sponsored by Sun Valley Real Estate.
And, in the girls' fastpitch softball 11-13 final, coach Koree Hawkes' Wisconsin Badgers sponsored by Cynthia Unger DDS completed an undefeated campaign with a victory over the #2-seeded Georgia Bulldogs sponsored by Donnelley Sports.
In all there were 40 teams for kids ages 7-13 signed up in the program this summer—33 in youth baseball leagues and seven in softball.
Here are tournament final results:
Baseball 11-12: #1-seeded San Diego Padres (Shelley's Deli) won 4-1 over #2-seeded New York Yankees (Fireplaces Etc.) in the title game.
Third place—#6-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers Atkinsons' Markets) over #5-seeded Oakland A's (Cox Communications).
Consolation—#4-seeded New York Mets (Wise Guy Pizza Pie) over #3-seeded San Francisco Giants (Tim Jeneson Insurance).
Baseball 9-10: #7-seeded Batavia Muckdogs (Idaho Mountain Express) over #3-seeded Lake Elsinore Storm (Sun Valley Real Estate) in the championship game.
Third-place champion: #1-seeded Augusta Green Jackets (Wood River Family Medicine).
Consolation champion: #4-seeded Mobile Bay Bears (Sawtooth Auto Sales).
Coed Coach Pitch 7-8: Tucson Sidewinders (Blaine County Fitness LLC) won the championship over Sacramento River Cats (Rocky Mountain Hardware).
Consolation champion: Lansing Lugnuts (Hailey Nursery).
