All-Stars 2-3 at Salmon

Slow start in tourney

Wood River's 11-12 All-Star baseball team rolled into Salmon with high hopes last weekend after a good outing in Rupert. Wood River went 2-3 in the two-day, 10-team tournament for teams from Idaho Falls to Blackfoot to Eagle.

Hailey's bats fell silent in Friday's first two losses to Burley and Twin Falls. Wood River combined for one run on five hits in the two games. Braxton Parish's triple was a highlight.

In the third game Friday the bats came alive as Wood River spanked Rigby 16-6. Good pitching from Connor Braatz (struck out 7 of 14) and Johnny Paris, solid defense and lots of hits proved a winning formula.

Everyone got a hit as Wood River batted around twice. KT Martinez, Tim Boyle and Kevin Cooley had doubles.

Saturday in 100-degree heat Hailey beat Blackfoot's Bulls 8-2 with key hits by KT Martinez (triple) and Tom Crosby (double). Sound pitching by Connor Braatz and catching by Tim Boyle led the way.

Next, defending champion Burley scored quickly and never looked back dropping Wood River out of the single elimination tournament.

Coach Billy Kramer said, "When the kids played well they were unbeatable, playing solid defense and hitting. When the bats aren't working, it's tough to win games. We need to work hard in practice and perform well at Driggs."

This weekend the 9-10 All-Stars and 11-12s travel to Driggs for the annual Teton Valley All Star Tournament.

The 11-12s are coached by Kramer and Morgan Uhrig, and sponsored by Uhrig Fencing, Power Engineers and Pepsi.
