Padres clip Yanks to win baseball tournament

The San Diego Padres captured the championship in Blaine County boys 11-12 little league action Wednesday evening with a 4-1 win over the New York Yankees.

The Padres, sponsored by Shelley's Deli, were the top seeded tournament team. They advanced to the championship game with a win Tuesday over the Los Angeles Dodgers, sponsored by Atkinson's Markets.

The Yankees, sponsored by Fireplaces Etc. were the tournament number two seed. They advanced to the championship game by beating the Oakland A's Tuesday. The A's are sponsored by Cox Communications.

Also Wednesday evening, the Dodgers won third place by beating A's.

The winner of the consolation bracket was the San Francisco Giants, who defeated by New York Mets on Tuesday. The Giants are sponsored by Tim Jeneson Insurance and the Mets are sponsored by Wise Guy Pizza Pie.

Tournaments for other divisions of the Blaine County Recreation District's Wood River Little League baseball and softball leagues ended Thursday night. Results of those tournaments will be featured in the Idaho Mountain Express next week.
