Tournament time for baseball, softball leagues

Rec District seasons reach high point


Tournament time is here and filling up the warm evenings with family fun for the Blaine County Recreation District's Wood River Little League baseball and softball leagues for kids ages 7-13.

In all there were 40 teams signed up in the program this summer—33 in youth baseball leagues and seven in softball.

There were 13 preliminary round games played Monday night at Nelson Field and Wood River High School softball field, both in Hailey, as well as Atkinson Park in Ketchum.

Championship games are scheduled for tonight, Wednesday and Thursday, June 29.

The Rec District expressed its appreciation to the 40 volunteer coaches and their assistants who donated their valued time and energy this summer.

Here are the tournament seedings for each league:

Baseball 11-12: #3-seeded San Francisco Giants (Tim Jeneson Insurance) vs. #6-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers Atkinsons' Markets); and #4-seeded New York Mets (Wise Guy Pizza Pie) vs. #5-seeded Oakland A's (Cox Communications).

First-round byes Monday night went to #1-seeded San Diego Padres (Shelley's Deli) and #2-seeded New York Yankees (Fireplaces Etc.).

Championship game is tonight, Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Nelson Field #1.

Baseball 9-10: #2-seeded Louisville Bats (Four Seasons Spa & Pool/Conrad Construction) vs. #7-seeded Batavia Muckdogs (Idaho Mountain Express); #3-seeded Lake Elsinore Storm (Sun Valley Real Estate) vs. #6-seeded Midland Rock Hounds (Marketron); and #4-seeded Mobile Bay Bears (Sawtooth Auto Sales) vs. #5-seeded Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Lefty's Bar & Grill).

Getting the first-round bye were the top-seeded Augusta Green Jackets (Wood River Family Medicine). Championship game is Thursday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. on Nelson Field #2.

Coed Coach Pitch 7-8: Ogden Raptors (Fisher Appliance LLC) vs. Burlington Bees (S. Erwin Excavation); Sacramento River Cats (Rocky Mountain Hardware) vs. Lansing Lugnuts (Hailey Nursery); Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Bald Mountain Realty) vs. Corpus Christi Hooks (Allred Precision Millwork); Savannah Sand Gnats (Wood River Lions Club) vs. Tucson Sidewinders (Blaine County Fitness LLC); and Carolina Mudcats (Smoky Mountain Pizza and Pasta) vs. Binghamton Mets (POWER Engineers).

Championship game is Thursday, June 29 at 7 p.m. on Nelson Field #3.

Girls' 11-13 Fastpitch Softball: #2-seeded Georgia Bulldogs (Donnelley Sports) vs. #3-seeded Kansas State Wildcats (POWER Engineers). The first-round bye went to top-seeded Wisconsin Badgers (Cynthia Unger DDS). Championship game is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the high school field.

Girls' 7-10 Fastpitch Softball: Auburn Tigers (MBT) vs. Colorado Rams (D.L. Evans Bank), and Kansas Jayhawks (Shorty's Diner) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Marketron). Championship game is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on the high school softball field.

Wood River Little League T-Ball (10 teams): Sponsors and team names were Marketron, Whitehead Landscaping and Snow Removal, Cornerstone Realty Inc., Sawtooth Wood Products, Wood River Community YMCA, REE-Construction, Elk Roofing Co. Inc., First Bank of Idaho, Hailey Eye Center and Haemmerle & Haemmerle PLLC.
