Twelfth-grade student Jens Peterson's untitled work will be on display in an exhibition featuring the work of Blaine County School District students at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts this weekend.

Silver Creek Alternative School student Katie Eldredge designed a lampshade that is accompanied by a poem called "Goodnight." The piece reflects Katie's inner emotions and reflections on school.

Her work will be showcased Friday to Sunday, June 2 to 4 with artwork from over 200 students during the sixth annual Young at Art exhibit. The Education Foundation of the Blaine County School District presents the student art show to encourage and promote the importance of the arts in education at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Ketchum.

"Young at Art reflects the school district's commitment to the arts as an essential part of the curriculum. Not every school district of the same size has the ability to provide such extensive art programs," Mary Gervase, Blaine County School District assistant superintendent said.

Young at Art shows student art from all Blaine County School schools. The creative pieces range from three-dimensional ceramics to self-portraits. Students also demonstrate their performing arts skills 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4 with a traditional Mexican dance performance by Bellevue Elementary fourth-graders.

"Young at Art is a testimony to the standards of excellence that this community has come to expect from the Blaine County School District. It's because of the whole community's engagement with the arts that we have such thriving art programs in our schools," Heather Crocker, Education Foundation executive director said. "This is a chance for the public to see the outcome of those lessons and the hard work that the students and teachers put into their art programs."

The Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that enriches educational programs and facilities, presents the Young at Art exhibit to showcase the depth of the district's art programs.

"We address many different concepts throughout the year. This is an opportunity to see a wide range of art from kindergarten through high school," Bellevue Elementary art teacher Joni Cashman said.

As testament to the quality of art education, many Blaine County students receive scholarships from the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and attend art school.

Ketchum restaurants will participate in Young at Art by offering a discount voucher valid during the show dates.
