A little red meat for mountain bikers

Wild Rockies series hits popular June events

With three events already staged, the 2006 Boise Co-Op Wild Rockies Series of mountain bike and footraces is fully engaged—and two popular events are coming up, back-to-back on June 10 and June 18.

The 14th annual Revenge of the Singletrack is Saturday, June 10 at Magic Mountain Resort 26 miles south of the I-84 Hansen exit east of Twin Falls. Pros and Experts will do two-and-a-half 10-mile loops and Sport races will go 19 miles.

Next up is the 18th annual Idaho City Excellent Adventure, which still holds the record as the largest race ever held in Idaho—with 904 riders 10 years ago. The LeMans-style start Sunday, June 18 shoves riders in all classes off on the same 17-mile loop starting from Main St. in Idaho City.

Decent spring weather is rarely the case for the early Wild Rockies events. But nearly perfect weather prevailed for the first three races in the 10-race series. They were April 8 in Owyhee County south of Boise, April 30 near Baker City, Ore. and May 13-14 at Lava Hot Springs.

Highlights included the Pro-Semi Pro Men's victory by Hailey's Cody Peterson (1.56:33) in the 31.5-mile Oregon Trail Classic race April 30 near Baker City.

In that same race NORBA National racer Georgia Gould of Ketchum won the 31.5-mile Pro Women's race in 2.19:21.
