Baseball players earn Great Basin nods

Wolverine All-Stars


First-year Wood River High School baseball coach Matt Nelson was pleased that seven of his players earned recognition on the 2006 Great Basin Conference West teams.

The seven were Casey Hawkes, Pat Patterson, Derek Abbott, Danny Kramer, Morgan Uhrig, Erik Jacobson and Drew Anderson.

Great Basin West top picks all went to district champion Minico. "Player of the Year," was McCoy Worthington. "Pitcher of the Year" was Andy Carlisle. And "Coach of the Year" was Minico's Ben Frank.

Here are the teams:

First team—Pitchers: Casey Hawkes (WR), Andy Carlisle and Matt Tracy (Minico). Catcher: Jed Frank (Minico). First base: Andy Carlisle (Minico). Second base: Dallas Garner (Minico). Third base: Travis Cooley (Jerome). Shortstop: Matt Tracy (Minico).

Outfield: McCoy Worthington and Colton Douglas (Minico), and Em Powell (Jerome). Designated hitter: Mike Cummins (Jerome).

Second team—Pitchers: Pat Patterson (WR), Em Powell and Ben Edwards (Jerome). Catcher: Derek Abbott (WR). First base: Kris Bos (Jerome). Second base: Dalton Beltran (Burley). Third base: Danny Kramer (WR). Shortstop: Nate Bobrowski (Jerome).

Outfield: Morgan Uhrig (WR), C.J. Reinstra (Jerome) and Dale Sayles (Minico). Designated hitter: Dane Broadhead (Minico).

Third team—Pitchers: Craig Beltran (Burley) and Dane Broadhead (Minico). Catcher: Steven Beck (Burley). First base: Erik Jacobson (WR). Second base: Drew Anderson (WR). Third base: Ben Edwards (Jerome). Shortstop: Craig Beltran (Burley).

Outfield: Casey Hawkes (WR), Buddy Green (Jerome) and Logan Parish (Burley). Designated hitter: Colby Andeson (Minico).
