Is your number up?

The practice of numerology is based upon Greek philosopher Pythagoras' belief that the world is built upon the power of numbers. Pythagoras believed that reality is mathematical—that order is created out of chaos through numbers. Numerologists believe that everything, including abstract concepts, can be converted into numbers and that those numbers have specific meanings.

Glynis McCants, who speaks at this month's Sun Valley Wellness Festival, is sometimes called the numerologist to the stars. Yes, she's Hollywood, and, yes, she knows them all But her work is so well respected, (Hyperion is reprinting her book "Glynis Has Your Number" with 100 more pages of new information) that she is regularly booked on TV shows, radio and at conferences.

"I'm a three, the natural comedian, double three, triple D," she laughed. "That's right. So, be ready."

Asked to discuss what each number means she launches effortlessly into a rapid fire sound off.

What's your number? Your number is determined, generally, by adding birth year, month and date together to make one number. For example, if your birth date is March 21, 1977, you add 3+2+1+1+9+7+7 = 30, so you are a 3.

1 (is the loneliest number)

"This person is independent and busy. They are out for number one and strives to win, how do I make a different, and when you do a good job, you're stoked, you over think everything."

2 (pair up)

This person seeks love, seeks harmony and does not want conflict. They seek companionable partnership. They are very loyal, and when they say that they love you, count on it. The flip side is that if they feel threatened or pushed to the wall, they become the terrible twos. But ultimately, they do not want conflict.

3 (three times a charm)

"This is a communicator; a three has a need to speak. If they don't they're miserable. They're motivated and uplift others. These are comedians. I'm a three. They are known for their moods, smiles, eyes and voice."

4 (seasons)

"Fours seeks knowledge. They want to know what's going on, Oprah is an example. Every time they learn something they want others to know it. There's no deception. Home is their haven. They are usually very cerebral and need to find ways to relax their minds."

5 (senses)

"Freedom, fun, adventure, never a dull moment. It's the party number, the one who stays for the last round. Holidays are usually their specialty. They have a hard time settling down and have a fear of being trapped or smothered in a relationship."

6 (six of one, half a dozen the other)

"This is a magnetic person who is drawn to energy. They want to take care of things, do damage control, smooth things over. They have to learn the words: things are good and I am okay with that. Bush is a six. He's not good at calm and cool, and that's why he's had trouble."

7 (lucky number)

"Sevens are here to answer the big questions, who am I? Why am I here? They are the observers and they can be the loners. They tend to not be comfortable. Someday a space ship will come and they'll say 'thank God you're here.'"

8 (ball)

"Eights go in circles. They can make you feel crazy. They are here to establish financial security, but they need to learn to take advice. They don't listen."

9 (love potion)

"Nines are humanitarians and natural leaders. Nine is the number of completion, the old soul number. An example is Gandhi. He was evolved enough to realize going to war would never lead to peace. They have to learn to overcome family issues, and pain from the past. It's part of their lesson."

Here's McCants' take on the month of May: "Grab a box of popcorn and pretend you're at a movie. It's drama. You can't take anything personally. Instead, observe it like a film, because every time you try to fix it, the joke is on you. May is a crazy month. Five means never a dull moment. It's exciting energy."

McCants' involvement in the Sun Valley Wellness Festival deals with how numerology affects relationships. "My whole purpose this trip is to say there is no such thing as a stranger when you've got the numbers. You can bring peace into current relationships or find a natural match, and in business you can find a new way to get along with colleagues. It's about healing your relationships by the number.

"I did pick my husband by the numbers. We've been together four years. He is my best friend; I have never loved anyone this much in my life. He completes me. No punch line.

"My mission is to match-make the planet, either you're single and I help you find the one, or you're married and I help you in a whole new way to bring the relationship back to life."

Among McCants' regular TV gigs are doing the weekly top stories on "Leeza at Night" and a regular guest spot on the "Tony Danza Show."

She does "celebrity stuff and teaches about personal months and how to play that month. I do live reads to prove how accurate it is. Because my segments are consistently very highly rated I now have a contract from Buena Vista TV, a subsidiary of Disney, to develop my own show.

"I'm the gal they come to when there's a number floating around in Hollywood."
