Rodeo circuit comes to Carey

For two weekend performances

Fairfield's Kortnee Hurless picked up 13 points and cut into Amanda Hill's girls' all-around lead during last weekend's Shoshone stop on the Fifth District high school rodeo circuit.

Hurless and Carey senior cowgirl Hill split the pole bending victories at Shoshone, but Hurless won a goat tying go-round and ended the weekend with 167 points on the season—just eight behind Hill (175).

The two cowgirls will battle it out once more when the circuit comes to Blaine County Fairgrounds in Carey this weekend for performances Friday, May 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 at 5 p.m.

Hurless currently leads the pole bending, breakaway roping and goat tying season standings. Hill stands in second place in barrel racing and pole bending for the spring circuit.

After this weekend's Carey rodeo, the circuit finishes May 26-27 at Jerome, with the state finals June 20-24 at Pocatello.

In other news, Wood River Middle School sixth-grader Haillie Taylor competed Saturday night at the Shoshone rodeo in a Wrangler Jeans-sponsored series of events for junior high school athletes.

Taylor won her division in barrel racing and pole bending, in the process beating high school girls with her times. The previous week in Gooding, Taylor captured barrel racing and pole bending and placed fourth in the goat tying competition.
