No election necessary for school board

Unchallenged incumbents gain automatic victories

The annual election for the Blaine County School District board of trustees will not be held this year. The three trustees with expired terms, Alex Sundali, Kim Nilsen and Mari Beth Matthews, are running unopposed. No other candidates filed by the April 14 deadline.

"We don't often have people run against the incumbents," said Cathy Zaccardi, clerk of the school board.

As provided in Idaho Code, Zaccardi will sign a Certificate of Election in May, naming Sundali and Nilsen to three-year terms and Matthews to a one-year term.

Completing her first term, Sundali was elected to the board in 2003 and elected chairwoman in 2005. She represents Zone 4, the district in the northern half of Blaine County.

Nilsen, a general contractor who lives in Hailey, represents Zone 2, the district in southern Hailey. He was elected vice-chair in 2005.

Matthews represents Zone 3, which includes the northern side of Hailey and a portion of Blaine County. She was appointed in September 2005 to fill the unexpired term of office left on the board by the resignation of Kathy Pruett.
