Carey track bounces to fourth

Boys relay bests the rest


Both the girls and boys Carey High School Track teams finished fifth at a 12 school meet last Monday in Carey.

With 60 points and a more competitive field the girls team faired slightly better than their male counterparts. The girls best result came in the Medley Relay where their time of 2:04:40 put them in second place, just two minutes and ten seconds behind winning Raft River. The Lady Panthers also took third in the 4x200 relay.

The top individual Carey girls were Serene Bingham (third in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the 100 hurdles, sixth in the triple jump) and Allison Shaffer (fourth in the 1600 run and fifth in the 3200 run). Overall, Raft River was the top finishing girls team. Richfield and Shoshone took second and third respectively.

The guys team finished fifth with 47.50 points, despite a first place finish by the 4x400 relay team of Cody Baird, James Carlson, Allen Peck and Scott Ellsworth. The four rounded the track four times in 3:56.

The Panthers had a few standout performances, including James Carlson runner-up time of 47 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles. Also, Scott Ellsworth took third place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57:40. Tyler Park was fifth in the high jump at five feet, six inches. Kade Peterson was sixth, at five feet, two inches. Peterson also finished fourth if the 3200 meters.
