Tele series goes out in style

Hawaiian Nationals this weekend

The 2006 Sun Valley Telemark Series goes out with a bang this Saturday, April 8 on Warm Springs with the annual Hawaiian Nationals races.

Registration for the event will be from 8:30-10 a.m. with races starting at 10:30 on Cozy. Discount lift tickets will accompany the $20 race bib to compete.

The Hawaiian Nationals have become a tradition in Ketchum. With many bemoaning a changing town dynamic, the Sun Valley Tele Series, and the Hawaiian Nationals in particular, aims to savor some of that ski-town spirit.

Crazy costumes—not limited to just island garb—are rife at the spring event and spectators and competitors alike are encouraged to dress up any old nutty way they see fit and come out and support the racers.

The tele-race will be complemented by a telemark parade down Baldy, a Smith Limo Rail Jam, the rarely seen Warm Springs creek tele-crossing and also the highly challenging tandem telemark challenge (two skiers on one pair of teles).

The season-closing party will be held outside Apple's at the end of the day. Live music will be provided by reggae sensation Mystic Roots, one of Los Angeles' most popular bands (check Arts and Events for full details). Eighties ski legend Glen Plake will be attending the party as well, filming the day's festivities with a crew from the RSN network.

A charity raffle at the party will benefit the Sawtooth Avalanche Hotline, Expedition Inspiration and Sun Valley Adaptive Sports.
