Mt. Bachelor lures Nordic skiers

For National Masters finals


Mt. Bachelor Ski Area outside of Bend, Ore. attracted about 300 cross-country skiers for last week's National Masters Nordic Championships.

A number of Wood River Valley skiers made the trip for three days of racing on courses ranging from 10 kilometers to 30 kilometers.

Muffy Ritz, Charley French and Gabriele Andersen each swept their age classes, winning three gold medals. Bob Rosso collected two silvers and a bronze, while Del Pletcher had two golds and a silver.

March 25, Rossignol 10k Classic—Men's 7 (60-64): 1—Del Pletcher 40:00. Men's 10 (75-79): 1—Charley French 52:32. 3—Norman Clark 56:39. Women's 7 (60-64): 1—Gabriele Andersen 42:31. Women's 4 (45-49): 1—Muffy Ritz 39:25. Women's 5 (50-54): 4—Joni Cashman 51:19. Fun 10k: 6—Taina Raff 59:47.

March 26, Bend Bike 'N Sport Cascade Crest Freestyle Championship, 30k—Men's 2 (35-39): 9—Wilhelm Northrop 1.29:15. Men's 4 (45-49): 8—Kris Thoreson 1.29:12.
