Lane Parrish races return this weekend

Super G and bumps on Baldy

Lane Parrish would have enjoyed the great winter of 2005-06 at the Sun Valley resort.

Fittingly, locals will honor Parrish's memory with a great April Fool's weekend of mogul and speed racing on Baldy.

The 14th annual Lane Parrish Memorial alpine ski races are set for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. Super giant slalom is planned for Greyhawk and mogul racing will take place on Race Arena.

The friendly, local competition provides funds for Ketchum Alpine Racing and the Sun Valley Freestyle Team.

A classic Sun Valley persona of the 1970s and 1980s, Parrish was a local speed and bump skier and stuntman who died in 1990 in a plane crash at age 33.

Skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders are invited. Age groups are 40-plus, 20-39, 13-19 and 12-and-under.

Combined skiers will be first on the super giant slalom start list. The mogul racing is Saturday, April 1 on Race Arena. The SG is Sunday on Greyhawk.

Most registrations will take place during the pre-race sign-up party Friday, March 31 from 3-6 p.m. at Apple's Bar & Grill at the bottom of Warm Springs. The awards party will be staged at Apple's Sunday afternoon.

Cost is $25 for each event, or $45 for combined entry. For kids 12-and-under, the cost is $15 per event and $25 combined. Turn in registrations at Apple's and receive your race t-shirt.

Last year's overall winners were Carl Rixon Jr. and Ali Maricich. There were 120 racers in the SG and 87 in bumps.
