Sun Valley City Councilwoman Ann Agnew plans to return to her post this week after undergoing treatment for throat cancer at the University of Washington in Seattle.
"At last, I am scheduled to return to Sun Valley March 23rd. It is my hope that I will be able to participate fully in city activities beginning the month of April," Agnew wrote to the Idaho Mountain Express last week through e-mail correspondence.
Voters re-elected Agnew in November 2005 to serve a second term on the council. A month after the election, Agnew learned she had a tumor located at the base of her tongue. She chose radiation and chemotherapy treatments, rather than surgery.
"Everyone has gone way out of their way to make sure I have been in the loop on everything, so I hope to hit the ground running (or maybe, realistically, walking)," Agnew said.
Agnew works as an architect with Boss and Agnew Architects in Ketchum. In September 2005, she lost her husband, Jim Agnew, to pancreatic cancer.
"City staff and city officials are eager to have her back," Sun Valley Mayor Jon Thorson said.
