Great Basin honors top girls

All-League cagers


Great Basin Conference West champion and State 4A tournament third-place finisher Burley (21-4) led the list of All-Conference players when the 2005-06 girls' basketball team was named Monday.

Two Wood River High School players, sophomore Lauren Morgenthaler and junior Kristen Miniard, earned mention on the teams.

"Player of the Year," was Burley's 5-10 junior Jessica Brice. Top-seeded Burley beat Jerome 38-37 in the Great Basin title game, then downed Preston 46-38 in the conference finale. At state, Burley beat Skyview 34-29, lost to state runner-up Moscow and downed Lakeland 39-30 for third place.

First team: Nicole Tolman (Burley 5-10 sophomore); Lindzie Kulm (Jerome 5-8 junior); Sarah Schenk (Minico junior); Kandace Dalton (Burley 5-10 senior); and Lindsay Williams (Jerome 5-10 junior).

Second team: Lauren Morgenthaler (WR 6-2 sophomore); McKel Baker (Burley 5-7 junior); Dani Ramirez (Minico junior); Megan Parrish (Jerome 5-10 sophomore); and Ashley Elsensohn (Burley 5-7 senior).

Honorable mention: Kristen Miniard (WR 5-4 junior); Celeste Robins (Burley 5-4 senior) Mary Fennell (Minico 6-1 senior); Kari Green (Jerome 5-2 junior); and Tia Short (Minico junior).

Wood River coach Brent Carnduff has released his team's final 2005-06 statistics.

Morgenthaler led the way in scoring (10.9 ppg, 239 points) and rebounding (154 rebounds, 13 blocked shots). Second in scoring was Miniard (164 points, 7.5 ppg, 33 3-pointers). Miniard is currently #3 all-time on Wood River's 3-point shooting list with 44 trifectas.

Assists—Hannah Ward 48, Miniard 36, Jordan Scanlon 18. Steals—Jamie Stone 22, Ward 20, Miniard 17. Blocked shots—Morgenthaler 13, Ward 8, LeighAndra Roberts 5.
