A contingent of 16 determined Sun Valley Figure Skating Club members traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming's Snow King Center March 9-12 for the JHFSC Invitational Figure Skating Championship. Over 100 skaters participated.
Sun Valley won the third-place "Outstanding Club" trophy based on combined scores during the four-day meet. The local skating club brought home a crystal vase trophy with an engraved plaque. In all, there were 27 clubs competing.
Competing for the SVFSC in a variety of events at a wide range of skills levels were Ali Butler, Ashley Watson, Kayla Carrigan, Lauren Farr, Clare King, Julianna Lamb, Justin Pennington, Katherine Dwyer, Meredith Pintler, Telar McClure, Devon Sherrerd, Julia Dwyer, Alexandra Harten, Serena Hertel, Caitlin Sholtis and Cameron Clutter.
Wood River High School student Ali Butler won trophies for Most Artistic Senior Freestyle Program and for placing first in the combined Senior Ladies short and free skating events. She also placed first in Senior Ladies Short Program and Senior Ladies Free Skate.
In addition, the Sun Valley club is pleased to announce that Butler, one of the top-level competitors, passed the USFSA Gold Moves in the Field test at Jackson Hole. One of the club's adult skaters, Larry Schoenike, passed his Bronze Ten Fox USFSA Dance Test.
The following SVFSC skaters took home gold, silver and bronze medals from Jackson:
Gold medals—Ali Butler (Senior Ladies Free Skating and Senior Ladies After Short Program); Kayla Carrigan (Senior Artistic and Gold Solo Dance); Clare King (Novice Artistic); Telar McClure (Pre-Preliminary Showcase Group B); and Julianna Lamb (Intermediate Interpretive and Showcase).
Silver medals—Julianna Lamb (Intermediate Artistic); Ashley Watson (Senior Ladies After Short Program); Lauren Farr (Senior Artistic); and Alexandra Harten (Pre-Preliminary Interpretive Group A).
Bronze medals—Serena Hertel (Advanced Learn to Skate Free Skating); Cameron Clutter (Non-Test Men's Showcase); Telar McClure (Pre-Preliminary Interpretive Group B and Pre-Preliminary Girls' Free Skate); Devon Sherrerd (Preliminary Interpretive and Showcase); and Justin Pennington (Juvenile Boys' Free Skating).
