The 2006 U.S. Junior National Nordic Ski Championships hit its stride Wednesday with classic races on Michigan Tech trails at Houghton, Mich.

Of the 386-racer field, Sun Valley's Junior Nordic ski team entered 15 in three classes. Four cracked the top 10 led by 18-year-old Robbie Hamlin of Hailey and Alexa Turzian, 17, of East Fork. Both are Wood River High students.

Hamlin had an outstanding 15-kilometer effort, finishing seventh of 45 Older Junior (ages 18-19) boys just 2:13 off the winning time. Turzian placed seventh of 80 racers in the J1 girls (16-17) 10k classic event.

Mali Noyes ended up ninth in J1 girls and Reid Pletcher was ninth in J1 boys over 15k.
