Two 16-year-old Rowmark Ski Academy (Utah) ski racers earned downhill victories Wednesday in the first race of the 2006 Chevrolet Alpine Junior 2 Olympics (ages 15-16) hosted by the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation on Baldy. Andrew Phillips (27th in last year's National J2 downhill at Sugarloaf, Me.) made a big breakthrough by winning the men's DH down Warm Springs and Greyhawk by .27 seconds. Jennifer VanWagner (DNF in last year's National J2 DH) earned her second FIS win of the 2005-06 season with a .66 second women's victory. Sun Valley's Tristan Brown, 17, posted his best FIS result by far this winter with a 16th place. Soren Ireland was 31st and Ryon Campbell 52nd. In the women's event, Ketchum's Calley Brown finished 30th. Super giant slalom was Thursday, while giant slalom and slalom are today, Friday and Saturday. The event is an International Ski Federation (FIS) National Junior Championship.
