Bowlers wrap up 2006 city tourney

At Bellevue lanes Feb. 25-26

It was a good weekend for Wood River Bowling Association men and women during the annual USBC city tournament Feb. 25-26 in Bellevue.

Amanda Black was the big winner among women, capturing doubles with Carol Smith and winning singles handicap with a 724 and all-events handicap with a 2045. Elisa Tobia won all-events scratch (1588).

Richard Schaefer continued his mastery of the local lanes by winning handicap doubles with Mike V. Weems and taking the all-events handicap and scratch titles (2070) over Weems and Mike Tackett.

Thayne Hendricks was the singles handicap winner (728).

Women's tournament high scores were Tina Murphy (233 doubles and 209 singles), Carol Smith (223 doubles), Amanda Black (222 singles), Debbie Castle (218 doubles), Vicki Dick (210 singles and 202 team), Elisa Tobia (203 doubles) and Marta Thompson (202 team).

For the men, there were 71 scratch games of 200 or better.

Richard Schaefer (279 and 276) averages 224 and he had two of the top three games, in singles and doubles. Jim Bradley, a 179 average bowler, had a 277 in doubles. Thayne Hendricks, who averages 169, ran up a 265 flag in singles.

Mike V. Weems, who averages 214, bowled two 258s and added a 247 and 245. And 222-average Mike Tackett had a 257, 247 and 246.
