It wasn't a good night for the Wood River High School boys' basketball team Tuesday at Blackfoot.
Ranked fourth in the Idahosports.com 4A poll, the host Broncos (13-6) celebrated their "Senior Night" with a 57-36 victory over a banged-up Wood River team (8-12).
The hot-shooting Broncos canned nine 3-pointers and outscored the cold-as-night Wolverines 37-18 in the middle quarters when injuries took their toll on the visitors. Wood River went 0-for-9 from 3-point range and hit 9-of-20 free throws.
Leading Hailey scorer Cory Rutkowski (9.9 ppg) led Wood River with 10 points, but he left the game with an injured ankle just 30 seconds after senior Kyle Lubeck limped off with his own injured ankle. Senior Jesse Stark also came out for a while after some knee-to-knee contact.
And senior point guard Morgan Uhrig didn't play at all after hurting his ankle against Burley Feb. 3.
Other Wood River contributors were Eric Jacobson 7 points, Travis Beckman 7, Stark 4, Cooper McCroskey 3, David Sibrian 2, Corbin Miniard 2 and Lubeck 1.
The injuries caused Wood River coach Fred Trenkle to rethink his strategy for dealing with #1-seeded Burley (9-9) in first round of the Great Basin Conference West Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at Burley.
"We're going to have to try something drastic at Burley," he said.
