Marketron lays off 15 Hailey employees

In what amounts to a significant restructuring of Marketron International's Hailey operation, company officials have announced the layoff of 15 Hailey-based employees.

Headquartered in Burlingame, Calif., near San Francisco, Marketron International maintains operations in several locations, including Hailey, Birmingham, Ala., and Toronto, Canada. The company produces and sells software for media businesses, primarily those in radio and television.

Lauren Carpenter, Marketron International's director of marketing, said the reorganization was conducted to allow the company to emphasize its more successful product lines over those that have been less profitable.

Carpenter said the company's Hailey division is its largest and employs approximately 100 employees. She said Marketron's Hailey employees develop and support several of the company's major products.

In a company news release, Marketron CEO Mike Jackson said Marketron remains committed to the Wood River Valley because the area is where so many of the people who are critical to Marketron's business want to be.

"The valley attracts bright, well-rounded, personable and adventurous people—just the type needed to make and support great software," Jackson said.

"Marketron's strategy of hiring locally and training on the job has helped us to achieve and maintain a leadership position in our industry," he added. "We also find that the valley, with its strong community and varied amenities, can be an enticing draw when we need to look outside the area to find candidates with specialized skills."

Carpenter declined to discuss details of the layoffs and said company officials would not be conducting any additional interviews regarding the matter.
