Nordic, snowboard teams picked for Olympics

Cook on Nordic squad


Besides Wednesday's U.S. Olympic Alpine Team announcement, other American teams have been revealed in the past week and are headed to Torino, Italy Feb. 10-26.

Cross-country

Former Boulder Mountain Ski Tour queen Rebecca Dussault, 25, of Colorado headlines a group of 17 cross-country skiers named Jan. 17 to the 2006 U.S. Olympic team.

Anchorage's Lars Flora, 28, a former Sun Valley Junior Nordic ski team racer, has made his second Olympic team, and current Sun Valley Olympic Development team racer Chris Cook, 25, made his first.

Men: Chris Cook, 25, (Wisc.); Justin Freeman, 29, and Kris Freeman, 25, (both N.H.); Lars Flora, 28, (Ak.); Andrew Johnson, 28, (Vt.); Torin Koos, 25, (Wash.); Andy Newell, 22, (Vt.); James Southam, 27, (Ak.); Carl Swenson, 35, (Park City); and Leif Zimmerman, 22, (Mt.).

Women: Rebecca Dussault, 25, (Colo.); Sarah Konrad, 38, (Wyo.); Abigail Larson, 26, (Mt.); Kikkan Randall, 23, (Ak.); Wendy Wagner, 32, (Park City); Lindsey Weier, 21, (Minn.); and Lindsay Williams, 21, (Minn.).

Snowboard

Ketchum's Graham Watanabe didn't make the U.S. Snowboard Olympic Team announced Jan. 22, but 16 did.

Alpine, men: Tyler Jewell, 28, (Mass.). Women: Rosey Fletcher, 30, (Ak.); and Michelle Gorgone, 22, (Mass.).

Halfpipe, men: Mason Aquirre, 18, (Duluth); Andy Finch, 24, (Fresno); Danny Kass, 23, (N.J.); and Shaun White, 19, (Ca.). Women: Gretchen Bleiler, 24, (Aspen); Kelly Clark, 22, (Vt.); Elena Hight, 16, (Nev.); and Hannah Teter, 18, (Vt.).

Snowboardcross, men: Jayson Hale, 20, (Ca.); Nate Holland, 27, (Ca.); Jason Smith, 24, (Colo.); and Seth Wescott, 29, (Maine). Women: Lindsey Jacobellis, 20, (Vt.).
