Butler named to U.S. Junior World Team

Sun Valley shredder to compete in Korea

After a show stopping run that qualified him among the top 20 halfpipe riders in the nation at a Mt. Bachelor Grand Prix, Austin Butler, 17, was named this week to the U.S. Junior World Team.

The Sun Valley Snowboard Team freestyle rider threw trick after trick in the pipe at the Bachelor event, an Olympic qualifier, against elite competition in early January.

"It was definitely the best ride of my life," he said afterwards. In it, he linked a an inverted 900 into a McTwist followed up by a corked-7, all will landings smooth as silk.

"He turned everybody's head at that event," said his coach and Sun Valley Snowboard Program Director Andy Gilbert.

With the recent promotion, Butler will travel to South Korea's Daemyeong Vivaldi Park for a Feb. 3-6 Junior World competition.
