Dietrich handles Community School

Boys lose double-OT thriller; girls fall 65-34

Dietrich basketball swept the Community School Tuesday and Wednesday night, beating both the girls and boys teams in their home gym in Northside Conference play.

The Lady Cutthroats were whipped 65-34 Tuesday night, and are still looking for their first win of the season, while the boys lost a double-overtime heartbreaker 65-60 Wednesday night.

The Community School's boys' team could smell victory before Dietrich's Anthony Pitman tied the game, 39-39, at the end of regulation to force overtime.

Pitman led the blue Devils through post-regulation play, scoring 14 of his game-high 20 points in the two overtime periods.

The Community School's Mat Whittington was a force, scoring a team-high 17 points and hauling in 16 rebounds.

The Cutthroats trailed 20-17 at the half before putting in a strong third quarter effort to take a 31-26 lead. But the Blue Devils scored 13 fourth quarter points while holding the Cutthroats to 8 points to force overtime.

Both teams recorded 11 points in the first overtime period to keep the score locked, 50-50.

Dietrich capitalized on the Cutthroats foul trouble in the final overtime period—juniors Alden Remington and Brendan Nelson both fouled out—to run away with the game.

The Community School fell to 1-5 (1-2 conference) and travel to Bliss tonight.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night the Lady Cutthroats were roughed up by the Lady Blue Devils, who sit atop the Northside Conference at 4-1 (12-3 overall).

The Cutthroats got off to a slow start and trailed Dietrich 14-5 at the end of the first quarter and 32-19 at the half.

The Community School is now 0-5 overall, with all losses coming in Northside Conference play.

The Blue Devils were on fire with three girls reaching double digits in scoring.

Seniors Caitlin Dill and Denise Anderson each scored 18 points with senior Nicki Miller putting in her best performance of the season with 13 points, including six steals.

The Cutthroats Caroline Fairchild scored 13 points and teammate Amaya Ingram followed with 11 points, including a three-pointer.

The Blue Devils maintained their pressure in the second half, outscoring the Community School 33-15.

Dietrich commanded the game from the start, despite committing 17 fouls to the Cutthroats 7.

The Cutthroats travel to Bliss tonight and host Camas County in Ketchum on Saturday at 6 p.m.
