Sun Valley Company is offering special ski and snowboard instruction clinics for students and local adults during the month of January.

The seven-session Sun Valley Ski & Snowboard School "Snow Sports Camp" kids' program is limited to students in kindergarten through the sixth grade (snowboard instruction for kids 6-and-older, only).

Always a popular activity for local families, the program is scheduled to begin its 29th season on Saturday, Jan. 14. It continues on weekend days through Saturday, Feb. 4.

The cost of $140 per person includes lessons as well as lift tickets for all seven days.

Regular Sun Valley Ski School instructors provide the teaching at substantial savings compared to the cost of regular children's clinic rates.

Tickets for instruction and skiing are available through Friday, Jan. 13 at River Run Day Lodge (622-2289). No late registrations will be accepted.

A child must take part in the first day of lessons Jan. 14 to be eligible for the remaining weekend sessions Jan. 15, Jan. 21-22, Jan. 28-29 and Feb. 4.

Regardless of skiing ability, all registered participants must meet from 8:30-9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at Carol's Dollar Mountain Lodge. Children are then assigned to classes by ability.

Morning classes start at 9 a.m. and conclude by 11:30 a.m. Parents are responsible for their children once the classes end. If they are supervised or allowed, children may continue skiing on their full-day lift passes. The afternoon classes go from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Local adult clinics

Also in January, the Sun Valley Ski & Snowboard School for the 25th consecutive year is offering local adult ski and snowboard clinics.

Clinics for competent Baldy skiers/snowboarders are held for three consecutive Saturdays. They are Jan. 14, Jan. 21 and Jan. 28. The cost of $100 per person does not include the price of lift tickets.

The Baldy skiers/snowboarders have their initial meeting Saturday, Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at River Run Day Lodge. Instruction occurs from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on each of the three Saturdays.

Beginning skiers and boarders will join regular ski classes from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the three Saturdays. Absolute beginners won't be required to buy a lift ticket the first lesson.

Participants must register in person at River Run Lodge through Friday, Jan. 13. You must attend the first Saturday. No tickets will be sold on a single-day basis. Call River Run Ski School at 622-2289.
