Rangers ride to glory in Idaho Falls

With seven goals from center Dave MacMillan, the Ketchum Rangers captured the flag in the first annual Idaho Falls Invitational Hockey Tournament.

Playing in the over-50 division, the Rangers went 2-0-1 in a round-robin format against opponents from Pinedale, Wyoming and Idaho Falls.

Ketchum opened with a 6-2 thrashing of Idaho Falls. Mark McQueen tallied two goals and MacMillan, John Heinrich, David Brown and Al Reynolds chipped in one apiece.

Trailing the Wyoming Wolves 3-1, the Rangers came back to tie the game 3-3 on goals by MacMillan (2) and Charlie Holt, earning a spot in the finals against the same squad.

Ketchum jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Pinedale answered, making it a 3-3 game in the third period. MacMillan slotted the game-winner with 4:13 on the clock and Ketchum went into defensive mode for the final four minutes to clinch the title.

"It was a mad scramble, but we held on," manager John Heinrich said.

Rounding out the Rangers roster were goalie Karen Morrison, Glenn Hunter, Rich Milward, Eddie Grimes and Hermie Haavik.
