Sun Valley Resort will open additional ski lifts on Bald Mountain Saturday, Dec. 10.
Resort officials announced this week that mountain crews on Saturday will start operation of the Mayday lift, which provides access to Bald Mountain's upper bowls, and the Lookout lift, which traverses the top of Baldy between the Lookout summit and the true summit, above the bowls.
The mountain manager's office said the bowls will be open.
"The crews aren't yet committing to exactly what (bowls) will be open Saturday," said resort spokeswoman Shannon Besoyan. "People will have to check our daily mountain report to find out."
The River Run, Lookout Express and Challenger lifts are already providing access to vast areas of terrain on the River Run and Warm Springs sides of Baldy.
The upper sections of Baldy have received 95 inches of natural snow so far this season. The resort reported Thursday that the top of the mountain has a snow base of 65 inches and the lower mountain has a snow base of 35 inches. The snow depths include natural and manmade snow.
On Thursday, 49 ski runs were open on Baldy, 16 of which were groomed by Sun Valley's new fleet of snow cats. Lifts to the top of the mountain load guests from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and all lower lifts load guests from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition, Sun Valley on Saturday will reopen Dollar Mountain, the resort's beginner's hill. The mountain was temporarily closed after Thanksgiving weekend. Carol's Dollar Mountain Lodge, the Quarter Dollar and Half Dollar lifts, and the Sun Valley Ski and Snowboard School carpet will be open at 9 a.m.
