Fifth-year Carey School football coach Lane Kirkland (32-13) walked off with the top coaching honor as the Sawtooth Conference West selected its All-Conference eight-man football teams Monday.
Kirkland led the high-scoring Panthers (a school record 50.8 points per game) to an 8-2 season mark and the Sawtooth West championship. Carey had five- and three-game winning streaks before falling to North Gem of Bancroft 48-44 in the first round of the State 1A Division 2 playoffs Nov. 5.
Carey claimed eight positions on the All-Conference first team dominated by the Panthers and second-place Camas County Mushers (7-3).
They were seniors Tyler Cook, Tadd Green, Luke Harmon and Devin Simpson, along with juniors Brad Hunt, Jesus Ocampo and Cody Baird. Camas County's first teamers were seniors Josh Shroyer, Josh Rast and Tucker Hathaway, and junior Chase Lee.
Eligible were players from the Sawtooth West league including Carey, Camas County, Dietrich, Murtaugh and Richfield. Here's the Sawtooth list:
