Tennis fans, put Boise on your calendar in early December.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, Idaho becomes the center court of American tennis royalty as Andre Agassi, his wife Steffi Graf and rising phenom James Blake light up the Taco Bell Arena at Boise State University with a Rock-n-Racquets charity event.
Tickets are on sale and range from $15 to $85 with discounts available for families, groups and USTA members.
Locally, the best way to nab seats is through www.idahotickets.com or by calling 208-426-1766.
The event will feature the first-ever public pairing of Graf and Agassi in a mixed doubles match. Throughout the night, spectators will be witness to a mixture of sports and music, a fushion of entertainment.
Additionally, Blake and Agassi will be teaming up in a men's doubles match against Mike and Bob Bryan, the world's top ranked men's doubles team. Topping off the doubles action, Agassi and Blake will also play a singles match.
Their match will hopefully recall some of the electricity of the epic U.S. Open quarterfinal that the veteran Agassi won in New York this past September. That five-set match was eventually decided by tie-breaker at 1:15 in the morning, before an enthusiastic crowd of 20,000 at Flushing Meadows, Queens.
After the match, which thrust Agassi back onto the sport's center stage, he said "I wasn't the winner, tennis was."
Despite losing, Blake was equally thrilled to be part of the historic match and said he is eager for the Boise rematch.
"Andre and I had such a memorable match ... it will be great to play with him once again in Idaho," Blake said.
Some proceeds from the Boise event will benefit the Agassi Charitable Foundation. The night's main sponsor, however, is Tamarack Resort, where Agassi Enterprises is developing a luxury hotel. Other sponsors include Micron and the Boise Co-Op.
