Ketchum doles out community grants

Healthy communities require healthy residents.

To help achieve that end, the Ketchum City Council approved during their meeting Monday, Nov. 7, 12 grants to the following community service organizations:

· Blaine County School District Education Foundation: $1,000 to help provide a substance-free graduation party for the class of 2006.

· NexStage Theater: $2,200 to provide performing arts and cultural services.

· Hospice of the Wood River Valley: $4,000 to provide hospice services.

· The Crisis Hotline: $4,000 for crisis intervention and referral services.

· YAK! (Youth Adult Konnections): $4,000 for teen activities and the Ketchum teen job board.

· Blaine County Senior Council: $4,000 to provide meals and transportation services.

· Sagebrush Equine Training Center: $1,000 for equine training for the handicapped.

· Ketchum-Sun Valley Historical Society: $3,000 for operation of the Heritage and Ski Museum.

· Environmental Resource Center: $2,200 for recycling services at public events and for programs.

· Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence: $3,000 for programs and services to address the needs of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

· The Sun Club: $750 for addiction recovery services.

· Girls on the Run: $750 to provide services that encourage preteens to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
