Suns start skating, new players sought

Five wins away from the franchise's 500th victory, the Sun Valley Suns men's ice hockey team is looking forward to the 31st Suns season—and head coach Chris Benson is putting out the call for any new players who'd like to join up.

Benson said any hockey players who'd like to play full-check hockey this winter should call him at 720-0172. The Suns started skating Oct. 26 and currently are practicing Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:40 p.m. at Sun Valley Skating Center, but those times could change.

The 26-game Suns season is set to begin Dec. 9-10 with home games against Park City, Utah.

Senior B and B+ hockey signups are underway

Sun Valley Senior B and B+ Hockey League signups are underway at both Hailey and Ketchum locations of Sturtevants. The winter recreational hockey leagues are open to male and female hockey players ages 18 and over.

The signups continue through Saturday, Nov. 5.

Games will be played Sunday evenings at Sun Valley Skating Center from November 2005 through April 2006. League play will begin around Nov. 20. Cost per player is $220 for B League and $240 for B+ League.

3-on-3 basketball for kids

The annual 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree for boys' and girls' teams in grades 5-8 will be held at Hailey's Wood River High School gym starting Friday, Nov. 4. Registration is Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the gym. Action continues through Saturday.

Organizers will present awards to the first-place teams of each age division and also to the winners of the free throw and 3-point contests.

Cost is $20 per team (maximum 4 players) plus a $5 entry for each contest. All proceeds will benefit Wood River boys' basketball teams. For more information contact coordinator Roy Tinker at 788-9395.

Spring soccer tryouts

The Sawtooth United Football Club will be holding soccer tryouts for the boys' and girls' 2006 U15-U18 Spring teams.

Tryouts will be held, rain or shine, at the Wood River Middle School Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Bring all soccer gear and water. You will need to be there to be sized for Sawtooth United's new uniforms.

All players/ parents need to check in and fill out registration forms at tryouts. Any U11-U14 players who missed tryouts this summer may also tryout during this session. If you are already on a U-11-U14 team, you do not need to show up.
