State is next for WR swimmers

Boise meet begins Friday

Riding a hot streak in the cool swimming pool, the Wood River High School girls' and boys' swimming teams are looking forward to state competition Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5 at Boise West YMCA.

Preliminaries begin Friday at 3:30 p.m. with final events starting Saturday at 10 a.m.

Wood River's girls continued their undefeated team winning streak with a huge 228-point triumph over Hillcrest of Idaho Falls Saturday, Oct. 29 in the Southeast Idaho Regional Swim finals at Idaho Falls.

The Wolverines (480 points) got individual victories by McKenna Collins, Natalie Hague and Anja Sundali and also captured relay victories in all three events—200 medley, 200 free and 400 free—with their "A" relay squad.

Wood River's boys' relay team of Ray Bryson, Neil Player, Scott Isaacs and Dan Husband placed second in 400 free and set a new school record with a time of 4:17.18.

Ray Bryson had a great meet, placing first in 200 IM and 500 free leading the Wood River boys (156 points) to a fine fifth-place team finish behind Bonneville of Idaho Falls (417) in the 12-team field.

WRHS girls qualifying for state were Collins, Hague, Sundali, Racheal McGinnis, Hannah McNees, Taylor Straley, Ashleigh Share, Esther Williams, Amanda Harris, Lacey Werley, Megan Hayes, Rian Ervin and Rachael Becker.

In addition, Ray Bryson and Neil Player qualified for this weekend's state meet in individual events, and they will join Scott Isaacs and Neil Player in 400 free relay at state.
