Solar Sox winning in Arizona

For baseball playoffs


The Sun Valley Solar Sox are off to a fast start winning their first three games in the 2005 Men's Senior/Adult Baseball League (MSBL/MABL) World Series in Arizona.

The Solar Sox, competing in the 28-and-over Central Division, beat the Bay Area White Sox 6-4 in Monday's opening game. On Tuesday, they squeaked by the Portland Reds 3-2 in the morning before topping the Albuquerque Bears 11-6 in the afternoon.

Sean Moran, of San Francisco, has been strong at the plate for the Solar Sox through first three games, with six hits in 11 at-bats, for a .545 average.

Moran's followed by Sun Valley's Anthony Anderson who's five for 11 at the plate with a .455 average. Curtis Bacca, also of Sun Valley, has hit .364 through the first three games and scored a team high five runs.

Dan Freeman, of Sun Valley, has pitched eight and a third innings with a 1.08 ERA. Scott Seaward, also of Sun Valley, has pitched 11 and two thirds innings, recording four strike outs and a 3.86 ERA.

The Solar Sox were scheduled to play the Long Island Angels Wednesday before finishing off with the Kansas City Monarchs and San Diego Knights on Thursday.

The Solar Sox, sponsored by The Waxroom, are mainly comprised of players who compete in the summer Sun Valley Men's Adult Baseball League. They are: Anthony Anderson, Curtis Bacca, Paul Creighton, Pat Creighton, Nelson Drewien, David Fox, Dan Freeman, Sean Moran, Brian Nelson, Robin Sarchett, Scott Seaward and Rod Watson.

Over 6,700 members of MSBL/MABL ages 18-75 are due to participate in what is called the largest amateur baseball tournament in the world, played in the Phoenix area. Expected are 370 teams in 32 separate divisions.

Sun Valley players Riley Nash and Pat McGee are due to play on a Long Island (N.Y.) team in the 18-and-over division. In addition, Ketchum's Jim Jaquet is playing in the 58-and-over division plus the Father-Son bracket with sons Michael and Brian Jaquet.
