After a tough 41-13 homecoming football loss to Burley last Friday, Wood River is focused on salvaging the season in the final three games, and it begins with a visit to Kuna tonight at 7 p.m.
The Wolverines' final three opponents have a combined record of 3-13, and Kuna (2-3) was whipped by Skyview 61-6 last Friday.
Wood River is 2-4.
"We have three games left against opponents we can compete with from a physical standpoint ... and I expect to be successful," Wood River head coach Mike Glenn told the Express after the Burley loss.
Wood River and Kuna have only met three times—a three game series from 1977-79—and the Wolverines won two of three.
The Kavemen are winless on the road and 4-10 over the past two seasons.
Like Wood River, they have a first-year head coach in Dave Beymer, formerly of Skyview.
Next week features a Great Basin West showdown with Jerome in Wood River's senior night. The winner of that game will finish third in the league and likely face undefeated Pocatello (6-0) in the first round of the state 4A playoffs Oct. 28.
The Wolverines have not beat Jerome (0-5) in 30 years, a 19-6 home victory in 1975.
