As it now stands, incumbent Hailey City Council members Martha Burke and Don Keirn are unchallenged in their bids for re-election in the Nov. 7 municipal election.
Burke and Keirn are running for council seats 1 and 2, respectively. Both candidates filed before the Friday, Sept. 30, deadline for municipal elections.
Would-be candidates may still file to run as write-in candidates, though. The deadline for filing as a write-in candidate is Tuesday, Oct. 25.
On Tuesday, Keirn spoke about what his top priorities for another term would be if he were re-elected, which now appears likely. If re-elected, this would be Keirn's second consecutive full term in office.
Keirn said seeing the local option tax proposal go to a vote, promoting economic development and implementing a development impact fee will be high on his list of things to focus on during a next term.
In terms of economic development, Keirn cited a need to "upgrade the development opportunities here for local residents."
Hailey should also implement a development impact fee "so growth starts paying for itself," he said.
At a Friday, Sept. 16, campaign kickoff at her Hailey home of 31 years, Burke also highlighted her goals for another term. If re-elected, this would be Burke's fourth consecutive term.
Burke said that among other priorities, she will focus on working to improve the city's economy and making sure Hailey's interests are well-represented during the relocation discussions for Friedman Memorial Airport.
"It's about protecting what we value here," Burke said to those gathered at the event.
Seats on the four-member Hailey City Council are placed on the ballots on a rotational basis; seats 1 and 2 are on the ballots this November, while seats 3 and 4 will come up in the November 2007 elections.
In other election-related news, ballots for absentee voting will be prepared by Friday, Oct. 14. Blaine County residents who wish to vote absentee, but are not yet registered, can fill out voter registration cards at any city hall in the county until Oct. 14.
