Youth grid games at home Saturday

WR fall program hits homestretch

Wood River Youth Football is sprinting to the end of another successful fall season, and will host a full day of home games Saturday, Oct. 8 at Homer Field in Hailey. Here's a look at how it's gone so far:

12 year olds: The Wood River Seniors are heading into the playoffs but first must play a home game against Fairly Reliable Bob's of Boise Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

In the first four weeks the 12-year-olds (1-3) lost to Ethan Allan 34-8, beat Mason 26-22, dropped a close 12-6 game to Idaho Auto Exchange and lost 34-6 to Meridian Red. Nathan Farrow, Kevin Jensen, Alex Padilla and Miles Hendrix all scored for the Seniors.

11 year olds: Close games have been the norm as the Juniors dropped 13-7 and 14-8 games to Lineberry and Meridian Blue, while Greg Lindbloom's touchdown pulled Wood River into a 6-6 tie with Trinity.

9 year olds: They won their first game 18-8 over Professional School of Eagle Sept. 24 as Cody Richmond scored twice and Kyle Clark once. Devin Doyle was a factor on defense.

Two losses were close—14-6 to Harrison and 12-6 to International Orthopedics. The 9s lost 26-0 to Pro Imp.

Flag football 7-8 year olds: They're going into their Saturday 1:30 p.m. home game with a record of 3.5 wins and 1 loss. On Saturday they dropped their first game of the season to McU Sports of Boise, but they've beaten Mountain Home, Meridian Maroon and Eagle Predators.

Players receiving game balls have included Sam Burns, Hagan Barsch, Ryan Anderson, Tristian Kulhanek, Hayden Thayer, Jake Jorgensen, Jimmy Graves, Wyatt, River Dryer and Zack Swanson.

The coaches said the players are meeting their goals of having fun, rotating players and learning fundamentals, being competitive, being good sports and going home tired and in one piece!
