Burley visits for homecoming

Wood River vs. Burley, 7 p.m.

Wood River football improved its overall record to 2-3 with a commanding 42-14 win over American Falls last Friday. Tonight, with homecoming festivities in full bloom, the Wolverines look to knock off league foe Burley for the first time since 1988.

Burley (2-2) fell to Blackfoot 24-15 at home last week. The Bobcats blanked the Wolverines 16-0 last year en route to a league title and have taken six straight from Wood River by a combined score of 194-33. Wood River last won 13-8 in Hailey in 1988.

The Wolverines displayed their most diverse offensive attack of the season last week, amassing 219 yards on the ground and 129 through the air. Converted quarterback Tyler Jackson rushed for three touchdowns as a fullback.

But the defense stole the show, intercepting American Falls' quarterback Robert Crompton four times, returning two for touchdowns.

Burley's wins have come over Declo and Preston. Wood River's other win was a 42-0 shutout against Filer in the season opener.

Kickoff is tonight at 7 p.m. at Homer Field in Hailey.
