An independent artist has joined the list of Ketchum mayoral hopefuls.

Dan Stein, 31, announced Monday that he is running for the seat occupied by incumbent Ed Simon.

"I believe the people of Ketchum deserve a mayor who brings a fresh perspective to the table and who is committed to bringing the community together," Stein said in a news release.

Stein, who describes himself in the release as an independent artist and server at Felix's Restaurant, joins several others who have announced their candidacy. So far, those running include Simon, City Council President Randy Hall and former councilman Maurice Charlat.

Stein said his top priorities are to establish a more cooperative means of smart growth, including wiser construction and development and a more efficient public transportation system.

He said he wants to create a stronger sense of community, stronger support for local artists and wants to find ways to reinvest in local business.

Stein was not immediately available for comment.
