Ketchum's Rebecca Rusch is the captain of Team Montrail-Revo, a group of four exceptionally fit and driven athletes currently charging through European wilderness with hopes of wining the Raid World Championships.
"The Raid," as it's known, is the world's most grueling and most illustrious adventure race. It includes stretches of mountain biking, high mountaineering, sea kayaking, canoeing, running, and "ropes activities."
In a nutshell, the Raid is the hardest thing that four people can get together to do.
Vague stories have been streaming into the Mountain Express all week. All hint at driving wind and rain on high mountain passes, feet pounded to the point of breaking skin, and leg muscles reaching points of terminal fatigue. Alongside Rusch, Team Montrail is John Jacoby, of Victoria, Australia; Martin Dreyer of Cape Town, South Africa and Tim Derrick, the navigator, of Redondo Beach , California. Supporting the team with food, water, and first aid are Dona Forst of Phoenix, Arizona and Jason Bauer of Boise, Idaho.
Rusch's Team Montrail-Revo will be finishing the 6 day race this afternoon. Despite updates from the field and global positioning series, there were still too many unknown variables to predict the team's rank. For the majority of the race, Montrail-Revo has been in the top 15 of a total 33 teams.
