On chilly day, Wood River girls cool of the competition

Dual meet at Zenergy

The Wood River swim team. Front row?Rian Ervin, Sarah Adicoff, Racheal McGinnis, Esther Williams, Taylor Straley, Bronwen Raff, Megan Hayes. Middle row?Anja Sundali, Rachael Becker, Amanda Harris, Hannah McNees, Ashleigh Share, Lacy Werley, Natalie Hague and Aly Strinman. Back row?McKenna Collins, Scott Isaacs, Ray Bryson, Neil Player, coach Brian Gallagher and Daniel Husband.

The Wood River swim team opened the season in an unusual place Saturday—at home.

"It was our first home meet ever," coach Brian Gallagher remarked.

And the friendly confines of Zenergy at Thunder Spring suited the local girls' squad just right, as Wood River blasted Twin Falls out of the water 69-18.

The Bruins returned the favor in the boys' division, winning 50-18.

Gallagher was pleased with both results, noting that his boys' team consists of only four swimmers, and his girls' squad of 16 has "just gotten better and better the last few years."

Stroking their way to individual firsts were Ray Bryson, Rachael McGinnis, Hannah McNees, Natalie Hague and McKenna Collins.

In the relays, the Wood River girls swept first and second place in the 200-Medley, 200-Free and 400-Free. The boys swam to second in the 200-Free.

Wood River travels to the Nampa Invitational this weekend.
